20 Jul 2008 HIV and AIDS Advocacy Adviser (two-year placement), based in Lilongwe, MalawiYou will have a degree or master's degree in Mass Communication/Journalism, Education, Development Studies or Social Sciences.
You will have a minimum of three years' experience in advocacy and HIV and AIDS programming, including campaign planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, especially from a rights-based approach; and in organisational development of NGOs or CBOs in an advisory/management/support capacity. Previous experience in engaging effectively with religious leaders and FBOs on HIV and AIDS issues; in planning and facilitating training events and group meetings on HIV and AIDS; and in Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) materials and messages design are also essential.
The successful candidate should also have theological literacy and the ability to understand and effectively manage inter-denominational diversity within the Christian and Muslim faiths; understanding of capacity building techniques and methods; a good knowledge of HIV and AIDS as a development and human rights issue; knowledge of governance issues, especially from a rights based approach; ability in policy analysis, development and implementation, especially as they relate to HIV and AIDS, and understanding of the implications of gender inequalities when working with issues relating to HIV and AIDS. Excellent project management, report writing and prioritising skills; good interpersonal and communications skills; gender analysis and mainstreaming skills, and a willingness and ability to work as part of a team and to share skills are also essential.
Specialised training in advocacy; a theological qualification; experience of working in a resource poor environment where access to technology is limited, and a driving licence are also highly desirable.
