Progressio boosts communications

Catholic advocacy and development charity Progressio has boosted its communications team with the appointment of a Communications Manager, a Media Officer and a Campaigns Officer.

Keith Ewing, former Head of Media & PR at aid agency Tearfund, takes up the newly-created role of Progressio Communications Manager. He will be working alongside Media Officer Jo Barrett, formerly at the NGO Coalition for the International Criminal Court and an intern at the New Statesman and The Independent. They are joined by Campaigns Officer Brie O'Keefe, who has worked in a variety of roles including policy intern at Shelter and research officer at Analytica Social and Economic Research. In addition to campaigns and media, Keith Ewing will lead Progressio's membership & fundraising, web and publications strategy.

Progressio, formerly known as the Catholic Institute for International Relations, has built a strong reputation over 40 years among policy experts and senior church leaders for its analysis on issues of international justice and development - from the liberation struggles of Latin America in the 70s, to the near-genocide in East Timor.

Chief Executive Christine Allen, said: "For many years we have added to our strong policy analysis by placing experienced professional 'development workers' with partners in the 11 countries where we work. We  have made these changes to respond to the challenges of broadening our supporter-base and raising the profile of vital issues facing the developing world and the world at large, such as our campaigns on terminator gene technology and the ongoing need for justice and reconciliation in East Timor."

Progressio works in six countries in Latin America including the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru. In Africa, Progressio works in Malawi, Somaliland and Zimbabwe and also has programs in Asia (East Timor) and the Middle East (Yemen).
