20 Jul 2008 Advocacy Manager, £35,785 per annum plus benefits, full time, permanent post, based Islington, LondonThe successful candidate should have a substantial work experience in developing and implementing advocacy strategies and in inputting into broader organisational thinking; of research, policy development, lobbying, campaigning and media work; proven management experience, preferably in relation to advocacy; of working with NGOs and community based organisations and faith based organisations on advocacy issues; and in research methodologies. Furthermore, you should have experience of monitoring and evaluating the impact of advocacy work; in general fundraising, writing project proposals and reports, and managing and monitoring a programme budget.
You should also have a mature and wide-ranging understanding of development policy and policy processes; strong people skills with ability to motivate, support, supervise and collaborate with professional staff; sound knowledge of issues related to some of Progressio's core areas of work (HIV and AIDS, environment, regional issues etc.); excellent strategic and analytical thinking skills; and strong skills in political judgement, critical thinking and the ability to navigate sensitive situations and issues.
Good understanding of effective campaigning and media methods; sound knowledge of international institutions which are likely to be the subject of international advocacy (UK government, the EU and the World Bank); understanding of the role and potential of faith based mobilisations in bringing about policy change; and commitment to working as part of a team and excellent interpersonal skills are also essential.
Willing to accept Progressio's roots in a radical, progressive Christian tradition and work with faith based organisations; to travel in country programmes and elsewhere; and a commitment to gender equity are also essential.
