5 Jun 2008 Zimbabwe Country Representative, full-time, three-year contract (with the possibility of an extension), based in Harare, ZimbabweProgressio has a policy of recruiting nationals for Country Representative posts. For this post, we can only consider applications from Zimbabwean nationals. Educated to a degree level in a relevant field, the postholder will have a minimum of fiveyears of direct experience in NGO management, strategic planning and project appraisal, as well as financial management. In addition, s/he should have relevant work experience in Zimbabwe and/or in the Southern Africa region; and experience of fundraising and of recruitment.
The successful candidate will have particular knowledge and familiarity with the socio-political and socio-economic reality of Zimbabwe and also sound knowledge and analysis of Southern Africa's political and economic contemporary context. Good understanding of international development issues, and the role of civil society organisations and multilateral bodies in development are also required.
It is essential to have good understanding of civil society organisations and NGO networks in the region and the key issues involved. The postholder should speak Shona and/or Ndebele; bea good communicator with influencing, representational and negotiating skills and ability to communicate effectively and build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people across a variety of settings. S/he should also have well-developed project cycle skills; cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse groups; strong numeracy skills; and sound grasp of gender analysis and dynamics. The postholder should also be committed to racial and gender equality, have an understanding of the structure of the Catholic Church and be willing to work with faith-based constituencies. Ability and readiness to travel by car frequently and widely within Zimbabwe and willingness and ability to travel outside Zimbabwe for periods of up to one to three weeks per year is also essential.
Background in a relevant area e.g. civil society strengthening, equivalent knowledge and skills in human rights; experience of being managed and of managing people in remote sites/distance management; competence in spreadsheet accounting; and a valid passport and driving licence are also desirable.
