The Peoples' Summit

As Peru gears up to host the fifth summit between the European Union and the Latin American and Caribbean regions on 17 and 18 May, Progressio development worker, Michelle Lowe, travels to Lima to bring you the latest developments from the high-level meeting.

Focusing on two key themes of poverty, inequality and inclusion and sustainable development, the 2008 'EU-LAC' summit is of particular interest to Progressio and its partners in the region.

An alternative people's summit, Enlazando Alternativas 3, is being run alongside the official meeting, from 13-16 May. It will see a coalition of social movements and non-governmental organisations from across Europe and LAC discuss common plans and alternatives to the official summit agenda, based on proposals presented by the people themselves.
