21 May 2008 Thematic Advocacy Coordinator (HIV and AIDS), £29,187 p.a., fixed-term two-year contract, full time (35 hours per week), based in Islington, LondonThe successful candidate should be educated to degree level in a relevant subject (e.g. HIV and AIDS, theology, community health, gender, social sciences).
You should have a mature understanding of development and related policy issues; sound knowledge of issues related to HIV and AIDS in the developing world and understanding of different church and faith approaches to HIV; highly developed analytical and strategic thinking skills; ability to understand and engage with Christian theology at an academic level; good understanding of civil society organisations and NGO networks engaged in advocacy around HIV and AIDS; very good understanding of gender issues, methodologies and tools, and commitment to gender equity; knowledge of bilateral and multilateral donors working in HIV and AIDS; extensive knowledge of Catholic Church and other UK faith networks, and of faith-based advocacy, and proven skills in advocacy and policy development.
You should have experience of research and advocacy on development issues, including HIV and AIDS; proven experience of influencing policy change, and experience of working with NGOs and community based organisations. You should have experience and skills in research methodologies including critical analysis and participatory methods andin general fundraising, writing project proposals and reports, and managing and monitoring a programme budget.
Strong political judgement and the ability to deal with sensitive issues with a variety of audiences; good communications skills in oral English and writing skills to publication standard, including the ability to translate complex ideas/issues into briefings and campaign materials are all essential. Commitment to Progressio's aims and values, including the integration of capacity building and advocacy work; willingness to accept Progressio's roots in a radical, progressive Christian tradition and work with faith based organisations, (as well as others), and willingness to travel in country programmes and elsewhere (four to six weeks a year) are also essential requirements.
