4 May 2008 Soil Erosion and Water Conservation Adviser, one-year contract (June 2008 - May 2009), based in Borama, SomalilandThe post holder should have a relevant MSc. (research) or PhD. qualification in agriculture and environment or a similar appropriate discipline.
You should have a minimum of three years' scientific research and/or teaching/direct work experience in planning and implementing soil erosion and water conservation activities at a regional or national level.
Knowledge of Vetiver grass; the ability to transfer skills and knowledge through formal or informal training and skill-sharing; a commitment to team-building and a consensus-led approach to work; developed analytical skills and experience in advocating on environmental issues including at the community level and through the use of project documentation (e.g. reports, papers, video / DVDs, case studies etc) are essential. Experience in monitoring and evaluating environmental programmes; the ability to promote a gender-sensitive approach to issues of agriculture and environment; the ability to plan and implement your own work, and good interpersonal and communication skills and are also essential.
Published work on soil and water conservation; experience of working with NGOs/CBOs in developing countries; experience of working in a resource-poor environment, and Somali language skills or willingness/ability to learn the basics of the Somali language are highly desirable.
