Volunteer Placement – Green Audit

Progressio (formerly known as CIIR/ICD) has been leading the way on practical international development issues for more than forty years. Whether through placing development workers overseas, or in our policy and advocacy achievements, Progressio has a track record of making a difference. We work with people of all faiths and none.

Progressio is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to help us take forward an Organisational Green Audit. The volunteer will liaise closely with Progressio's Green Group who have begun an environmental audit process in order to calculate our current overall carbon footprint. Progressio aims to have incorporated environmentally sustainable approaches into all our work by 2010, and this audit will establish a baseline against which improvements in our practices can be measured.

Based
Islington, London, with the possibility to work from home for some of the placement.

Timescale
A total of 10 days in May 2008 (the exact days are flexible).

Allowance
Lunch allowance (£2.50 per day). Expenses incurred for travel to Progressio from within the London area will be reimbursed (you will need to provide receipts for this).

Tasks will include:

• Collating and analysing data on travel undertaken by Progressio, to enable us to measure the organisation's environmental impact
• Presenting this information in a report, which the Green Group will then present at Progressio's staff conference in June

Skills and knowledge required:

• Excellent IT skills including data entry and data presentation
• A keen interest in Environmental issues 
• Good writing and numeracy skills 
• Excellent organisational, administrative and time management skills
• Good team worker 
• Analytical and critical thinking and writing
• Experience in web/desk research
• Good understanding of development and environment issues
• Ideally, a qualification in Environmental science or similar
