Cardinal praises Progressio’s livesimply work

The leader of the Catholic church in England and Wales, Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor, is to commend the work of Progressio and other Catholic organisations that are part of this year's livesimply initiative to live simply sustainably and in solidarity with the poor.

The Cardinal, Archbishop of Westminster and president of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, will say at the Advent service he leads on 1 December: 'We will shortly be entering into the season of Advent and preparing for the coming of Jesus into the world at Christmas. It is a special time - the baby Jesus is God made flesh, come to dwell among us and bring us the good news of our salvation.

'Advent and Christmas provide a wonderful opportunity for all of us to deepen our faith and to reflect on the good news that we are all created and loved by God and called to respond to that love by loving God and other people.

'The work of CAFOD, Progressio and the other Catholic organizations involved in livesimply over the past year is testament to our ability through faith and commitment to support communities and families in the developing world.

'This Advent Service rightly celebrates the efforts of many people who have found ways to live simply and strive for a more spiritual, less consumerist way of life.'
