16 Oct 2007 World Food Day - 'Say NO to terminator seeds' campaign launchOn 16 October, Progressio will be launching the livesimply 'Say no to Terminator seeds' campaign at an event organised by the UK Food Group celebrating World Food Day. The theme for the day is "Defending farmers and the right to food" and will be explored through a series of seminars and debates on the struggles and opportunities for small-scale farmers to provide food for their communities and others. The discussion will consider how small-scale farmers, especially in Africa, should be integrated into decision making processes and could be better supported in order to realise the right to food and food sovereignty. This will help to ensure food for the hungry and poor consumers, to secure the livelihoods of small-scale food providers and to sustain local environments, enabling adaptation to climate change. There will be sessions at: (10:00am) Livestock for Life, organised by Send a Cow; (11:30am) farmers rights to seeds organised by Practical Action; (12:45pm) briefing on World Food Day and other current events; (1:45pm) The future for marginalised farmers in Africa - a panel debate organised by Concern UK, with Oxfam, Christian Aid, Farm Africa, SEND Ghana and DFID. The launch of a campaign against Terminator technology organised by Progressio will take place at 4.30pm. Come and join us in celebrating World Food Day and saying NO to terminator seeds! You are welcome to attend all or some of the sessions. A light lunch will be provided. Location:NCVO, The National Council for Voluntary Organisations
