our partnersFUMA (Fundación Maquilishuatl)The Maquilishuatl Foundation (Maquilishuatl is the indigenous name of the national tree) is a civil society group which carries out development activities in the areas of health, education, gender and the environment. FUMA also promotes social organisation and citizen participation, including activities relating to local, regional and national development policies. Flor de PiedraFlor de Piedra (Stone Flowers) is a women's organisation in solidarity with sex workers in the marginal urban zones of El Salvador. Set up in 1991, its principal aim is to gain acknowledgement of and respect for the human rights of sex workers, to contribute to the improvement of their quality of life, and get them to be the protagonists of their own changes. Las DignasLas Dignas - the Association of Women for Dignity and Life - is a citizen's organisation whose mission is to work against gender discrimination. It supports women's groups working for changes in the unfair power relations between men and women. It advocates for public policies which emphasise the value of women and provide a framework for equality of treatment and opportunities in the political, economic and social spheres. It works specifically in five areas: improving the quality of life of women; opposing gender violence; sexual and reproductive rights; women's political participation; and recovery of the historical memory of the political role of women in El Salvador. Centro Bartolomé de las Casas (CBC)The Bartolomé de las Casas Centre began working in El Salvador in 2000. Affiliated to the Dominican Order of Preachers, it is an organisation with deeply Christian roots and important links to the theology of liberation. Its programmes are grouped round the themes of gender, ecology and participation, among others. The CBC together with Progressio focuses on the theme of gender, through masculinity programmes which aim to promote male participation in challenging the 'machismo' behaviour prevailing in Salvadorean society. IMUThe Institute for the Investigation, Training and Development of Women is an NGO set up in 1986 with the aim of working with the women's movement and civil society to contribute to the construction of democracy in El Salvador. IMU works in marginal zones, rural and urban, in education, communication, law and research; it also has projects to generate income and services. Las MélidasThe Women's Movement "Mélida Anaya Montes" (Las Mélidas) is an association of feminist women with over 3,500 members working in training and development, economic and social promotion, and the promotion of citizen initiatives based on the interests and needs of women. Unidad Ecológica Salvadoreña (UNES)UNES is a federal institution concerned with the environment and the promotion of sustainability. It seeks to protect the environment and improve people's quality of life by encouraging the organisation and participation of men and women on the regional, national and international scene. Its strategic plan is divided into four areas: environmental policies, ecological risk, institutional strengthening and development, and gender and environment. |
